The Gonads - All The Loon Stompers

Randale Records

At first I thought the title of The Gonads' "All The Loon Stompers" was just a little tongue in cheek reference to Rancid's "All The Moonstompers". And although it actually (and obviously) is, albeit with a humorous twist, the recipe of both albums is the same. But whether you classify these tracks as moonstompers or loonstompers, they're all ska and rude reggae tunes in the end - though in The Gonads' case they're all just a bit more looney!

Now I wouldn't consider myself a big fan of The Gonads, but "All The Loon Stompers" is a fun, sometimes even hilarious compilation of upbeat skankers out of both The Gonads' and The Skanads' repertoire! You will find a total of sixteen tracks of laughs and giggles on this CD, and while the lyrics can't be taken too seriously for the most part of it, the music definitely can be taken serious. Songs like "Oi Mate", "The Revenge Of World Cup Willie", "Three's Up", "Cheeky Chappy", "South London Aggro Girl", "Long Ska Summer", "Charlton Tel's Stag Weekend" and "Rude Boys On The Rise" will instantly put a smile on your face and have you shuffling around your living room in no time.

Best of all is the variety of both female lead –and backing vocals throughout this compilation. The addition of vocals by the likes of Shona Wattsie Watts, Liberty Hayes, Jennie Bellestar, The Skarettes, among others, are the icing on the cake and make me want to listen to a whole batch of these looney tunes over and over again!

Some ska-purists might cringe by the ska-sounds of The Gonads, but if you are a fan of the tongue in cheek sound of outfits like Bad Manners, Hub City Stompers or Mark Foggo, you will definitely enjoy this collection of loonstompers that is without a doubt much... much better than The Gonads' previous, acoustic effort "London Brawling". Oi! mate!
